The advocate and leading change agent for the neonatal nursing profession to optimize care for neonates and their families.

NANN's 25th Anniversary- A Legacy

It is a troubling time for everyone right now.  Throughout history, challenging times have led people to appreciate the truly important things in life.  These include family, friends and health.  As I consider health in terms of our patients, I am reassured by NANN's goal: Being the advocate and leading change agent for the neonatal nursing profession to optimize the care for neonates and their families.   I am comforted knowing that NANN members impact the health of our patients and families every single day.

Again during challenging times people often think about how they can continue to make a difference. How can they leave a legacy? As neonatal nurses we are privileged to leave a lasting impression, a legacy if you will, with each patient and family that we care for, each tiny hand we have held and each and every patient we have spent a shift with. We usher in 2009 and look forward to celebrating NANN's 25th anniversary -- A time to reflect on the past and to look toward the future. We must start by honoring our past -- honoring NANN's founders. They truly have left a legacy. It is with great thanks and respect that we honor them.

NANN's Annual Educational Conference, in Austin Texas this coming September, will kick off with a special event honoring our founding members and all past NANN presidents.  All will receive a special invitation to attend.  In addition to the conference we will be celebrating NANN's Silver Anniversary throughout this New Year.  We will be examining the evolution of neonatal care in many areas including: ethics, transport, and resuscitation at our meeting and in our journal.

As 2009 progresses you will see continued focus and progress in our four strategic growth areas of education, research, advocacy and member engagement.

Education

  • Annual Conference featuring state of the art science, technology updates and leadership development
  • Publication on High Alert Medications
  • Position statements will include Co-bedding, Use of human milk and medication administration safety

Advocacy
  • Nurses in Washington Internship (NIWI)- NANN supports two members to attend this intensive 2 day internship
  • NNP legislation advocacy

Research
  • Research Summit with Ross laboratories
  • Clinical Practice Guidelines Template Publication

Membership Engagement
  • Enhanced Chapter support
  • Social networking development

We need our members to join us in honoring our past and building a strong future. You can do this by volunteering, reading ANC and joining us in Austin for our 25th Anniversary Annual Conference.  I invite you to contribute to the Legacy that our founders began!

Respectfully,
