Navigator: Mentoring Resources is a peer mentoring program designed to provide formal support for novice nurses for 6 months beyond the orientation period. This program takes orientation a step beyond development of the novice nurse’s technical and critical-thinking skills, addressing the need for interpersonal skill development. Developed at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Navigator is designed to

• help novice nurses adapt to the organizational environment of their new role
• train experienced nurses in necessary communication skills so they can serve as mentors
• ultimately, increase retention rates of nurses.

The publication includes a soft-cover book with sections on

• implementing the Navigator Program
• program history at CHOP
• the Navigator Mentoring Workshop Facilitator’s Guide.

The CD-ROM consists of seven PowerPoint presentations for use in your own Navigator Mentoring Training Program:

The Navigator CD-ROM is available for institutional purchase at the rates noted below.  Orders can be placed via phone call to the NANN national office (800/451-3795) and online (go to Shopping Mall).  The online order system allows you to place payment immediately via credit card or choose payment by check to generate a form you can use as an invoice.  Choosing the latter option, your order would be processed upon receipt of the form along with check payment.

Institutions receive discounted rates when purchasing Navigator in combination with the NANN Guidelines for Neonatal Nursing Policies, Procedures, Competencies, and Clinical Pathways, 4th Edition and/or Foundations of Neonatal Care: A Comprehensive Competency-Based Orientation Program.  Combinations and their rates are listed in the Shopping Mall by system size.
