- Favorable outcomes of infants born after maternal COVID-19 during pregnancy
In a recent Pediatrics journal study, researchers assessed the outcomes of children born to mothers infected during pregnancy with the SARS-CoV-2. Over 2,700 newborns were born during the study period. Of these, 130 were born to women infected with SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy. Overall, the study findings indicate favorable clinical outcomes in all infants born to mothers with SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy. - COVID-19 vaccine may protect pregnant women from SARS-CoV-2 placentitis and stillbirth
Stillbirth is a recognized complication of COVID-19 in pregnant women caused by harmful changes to the placenta induced by the virus. Termed SARS-CoV-2 placentitis, it can render the placenta incapable of providing oxygen to the fetus, leading to stillbirth and neonatal death.
